Chapter Six

Jessie woke to an empty bed, but at least she was in bed. She detected no sign of Alex. Part of her wished he was there -- it might be nice to wake up beside him. But she knew better. He had things to do besides lounge with her.

Besides, she had a home. He said she wasn’t expected to clean for him. Everyone expected something from her.

She closed the front of her shirt and ventured out to the living room. Her ass still stung from the paddling, but she embraced the happy reminder of their play. Alex could be tender, even during the scene, and thinking about it warmed her all over. She treasured their time together.

“Miss?” A woman in a black shirt and pants approached her. “Hello. You must be Jessie.”

“I am.” She wished she’d have worn more clothes. “May I help you?”

“May I help you?” The woman smiled. “I’m Jane. I work for Mr. Malachi.”

“Oh.” He hadn’t said whether or not he interacted with the staff. She assumed so. Or was she staff, too? He wouldn’t sleep with the staff, would he?

“He sent this for you.” She offered up a bag. “He’d like you to wear the garments, and he’ll be home at noon. If you need any help or would like something made to eat, just let me know.”

“Where will you be?” Jessie asked. She didn’t want to traipse around in something risqué again in front of the staff.

“Around.”

Spooky. She paused. “Jane?”

“Yes, miss?”

“How long have you worked for Mr. Malachi?”

“Ten years.”

Then she must be trusted. “If you don’t mind me asking, how many other women have lived here?”

“None.”

“None?” That couldn’t be right.

“No. He’s lived in five other apartments or penthouses, and he keeps one by Indigo, but you’re the only one he’s brought here,” Jane said.

“Does he have women on the side? Like one in every penthouse?” Or was she the woman on the side and she didn’t know it yet?

“Not that I know of,” Jane said. “Mr. Malachi is careful. You can trust him.”

“Thank you.” She accepted the bag. “I appreciate your candor.”

“Miss Jessie?” Jane clasped her hands together. “He’s had many girlfriends, but he’s never brought any here or used the playroom with them. There’s something about you that makes you special.”

“Thanks.” She smiled, despite not being sure what to do.

“You need to get dressed and wait for him.” Jane turned on her heel and left.

“I will. Thanks.” Jessie sighed. She knew damn well she wasn’t his girlfriend. They had a business arrangement, and she couldn’t expect him to regard her as something more.

She placed the bag on the bed. A note had been tied in ribbon to the top of the pink box.

Get dressed and wait for me.

I’ll be there at noon.

Alex

What was she supposed to wear? She opened the box. A champagne colored silk sheath dress lay within the folds of tissue paper. She held up the garment and ran her fingers over the soft fabric.

Beneath the dress, a smaller box had been nestled.
